As the school year is about to start and talk of Fall is becoming more frequent, I couldn’t help but start thinking about one of my favorite “Fall” teas: Chelmsford’s Mulled Spice. A flavored black tea with hints of cinnamon and apples, Mulled Spice is a loose tea from the store Chelmsford Tea & Gift in Wichita, KS. I was sad to hear last night of their recent consolidation, closing down the store we usually frequented on the West side. But, the next time we are in Wichita, we will definitely still make the trip to visit the other tea store in the area.
Type: Black – flavored
Amount: 1 tsp for every 6-8 oz. water.
Steep time: 3 – 4.5 minutes
Directions: Boil water until approx. 203 degrees. In a tea infuser or tea pot with an infuser, add the desired amount of loose tea (see amounts above). Pour boiling water over the tea and steep for 3-4.5 minutes. The taste should have strong hints of cinnamon and fruit, but should not taste too bitter. For more flavor – add sugar or honey.
The Fresh Fridge Tip: When steeping tea, if you want the tea to taste stronger add more tea NOT more time.
If you are ever in Wichita, stop in at Chelmsford Tea Store. There are always new blends that are fun to try.
