Raspberry Chocolate Smoothie

I am always looking for a good smoothie to try. Usually, I end up with the fruitiest, sweetly sour smoothie I can find. However, when I decided to create a recipe that combined not only one of my favorite smoothie flavors (raspberry) but also threw in some chocolate, I knew I had to try and make it soon…very soon. Ever since the idea to make this popped into my head, I have been craving chocolate like crazy. And how is it that once you start thinking about chocolate, it seems like it is everywhere?! Chocolate candy, chocolate cupcakes, chocolate pizza, chocolate covered anything…I could go on, but it is making my tummy rumble.

I also realized today that I love my kitchen since it is where I get to try all of these fun recipes out, but it also drives me crazy. My husband mentioned a few days ago that there was a strange layer of ‘something’ on our kitchen table. Which I then had to explain how it had become another one of my kitchen counters…since the rest of them were piled with ingredients and pots and pans. Today, I decided to be more creative and used the living room for a place to use my blender. I’d like to think of it as getting to be creative when it comes to cooking ingredients and locations. But, enough about small kitchen woes…and on to the recipe! I hope you enjoy it!

Raspberry Chocolate Smoothie

Prep-Time: Approx. 10-12 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup malted milk powder
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 3/4 cup raspberries
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Directions:

  1. In a saucepan, mix together cocoa powder and sugar. Then add in water and malted mix powder and stir until mixed.
  2. Bring saucepan to a boil on medium heat, stir constantly. Then, turn to low and simmer for about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and cool. (I put mine in the fridge)
  4. In a blender add milk, raspberries, ice cubes, and cooled cocoa syrup mixture.
  5. Blend until smooth.

The Fresh Fridge Tip: Too get the seeds out of the raspberries first. Puree them by pressing them through a fine-mesh strainer. Then add them into the blender with the rest of the ingredients.
